A Russian-born American citizen, who was already behind bars in Russia on bribery charges, has been sentenced to a second sentence for espionage.
According to Russian news agencies, Eugene Spector was sentenced to a new 15-year sentence on espionage charges. Spector was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia, but later moved to the United States and became a citizen.
A Moscow court filed espionage charges against Specter in August last year, although details of the case were not made publicly available.

The US State Department said it is aware of reports of the sentencing of an American citizen in Russia and is monitoring the situation.
Spector, a former executive of a medical device company in Russia, was sentenced in September 2022 to three and a half years in prison for bribing an aide of former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

Aide Anastasia Alexeyeva was sentenced to 12 years in prison in April for taking bribes to finance two expensive foreign holiday trips.
Dvorkovich was Deputy Prime Minister under former Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from 2012 to 2018. Dvorkovich is currently the head of the international chess federation FIDE.
