Officials said on Friday that about two dozen people died on Friday, amidst an infection between a gang faction to control the area in the Guiakils of Ecuador’s largest city, the authorities said on Friday.
Local police chief Pablo Devilla told reporters that there was a gun battle in the northern neighbor of Nueva Prosperina on Thursday afternoon among members of the criminal group Los Tiguerons.
“Yesterday criminals killed each other in these parts of the city,” said Devila. “The problem is that they know each other, they know where they live, and they are fighting who has the power on that area.”

The police started an aggressive in response, with about 200 searching and guns and olfactions were confiscated. Fourteen people, including two minors, were arrested in the area.
According to officials, many of those killed and arrested had a criminal record, from robbery to drug smuggling.

In recent weeks, the government has doubled its response to the most violent areas of Ecuador, which is as part of the war of President Daniel Noboa on a drug trafficking gang.
Los Tiguerons and other gangs are considered a terrorist group by the government.
Noboa, who is demanding re -election in an April run -off vote, has said that the military and police officers will be allowed to respond to the violence without fear of being punished with heavy hand.
