What is the point of my life?
This is the question that almost every human being has in mind – whether it is asked directly or hidden beneath all the other important questions: Am I in the right career? Is this the right relationship? Is this the life I should live?
We all know when we are out of sync.
For some people this manifests as dissatisfaction with work. For others, a restlessness that no external change resolves. A life that looks perfect on paper but isn’t feel Correct.
When the objective is not met, there is a subtle feeling of being slightly out of sync.
Sometimes something clicks, and it may feel as if the question is finally resolved. But after some time it comes back in a slightly different form.
In most cases the assumption is that the answer has not yet been found. found.
That there is still something missing, something that needs to be identified, clarified or discovered…
…and that with enough effort, exploration, or the right choices, it will eventually reveal itself.
And so the search continues, becoming more sophisticated, more deliberate, more refined.
However, the problem is rarely a lack of trying. The misconception is where to look – and why.
While each story is different, the struggle with purpose follows common underlying patterns.
Having worked with thousands of students at Astro Butterfly School over the past decade, we have identified 3 main reasons why people struggle with purpose:
Reason #1: Looking for purpose in the wrong places
when most people ask “What is my purpose?” – They Relate it to what they do – what do they need to receivewith livelihood, professionOr achievements.
The purpose is transformed into something external, as a path that can be chosen.
So the question becomes: Who Is the path correct?
And from there, we start to look around: Who is successful? Who looks perfect? Which approaches seem to work? What is the best payment? Who has the best vacations on Instagram – and what do they do?
“They look like they know what they’re doing – I’ll try that.”
The vicious circle is that if one is unsuccessful by worldly standards, one becomes one more Hint that they haven’t found their purpose yet – and they need to keep out haunted.
If they feel unfulfilled in their career, or have a vague sense that there is more ‘out there’ – then, this becomes ‘proof’ that their Truth The objective is waiting for them… somewhere else.
And paradoxically, the same people who serve as role models – people who appear extremely successful by external standards – often feel that they are not fulfilling their purpose. But that’s reason #3.
In astrology, if one wants to understand one’s purpose or direction, the tendency is usually to look to mid sky.
The Midheaven is the highest point in the chart, it is associated with business, visibility and the direction we are moving towards – so this is where we have to look for purpose… right?
Wrong.
Purpose and Personality – Becoming Who You Really Are
Carl Jung understood this. He believed that the deeper task of human life is not achievement, not adaptation, not finding the right role – but becoming who you really are.
they called it Persona – And he was clear that this process starts inside, not outside.
The natal chart does not start from the Midheaven, which is why we should not look for purpose in a place that represents the culmination of a process, not its core.
Looking for purpose there is like trying to read the last chapter of a story you haven’t read yet.
Astrology can do Very useful here – but only when used correctly.
Jung himself worked with astrological charts in his practice – finding that astrology revealed dimensions of the psyche that he could not access through other means.
Astrology does something that no other system can: it connects different parts of our psyche in a coherent way, helping us understand where to lookAnd giving structure Which would otherwise remain fragments of meaning.
Confusing purpose with career and external direction
The problem with purpose is not a lack of options or a lack of effort, but the externalization of a process that can only unfold inside.
When we look out for the ‘right’ career or next opportunity, we hand the steering wheel to the wrong driver.
At best, this leads to lives and careers that look right… but don’t feel right.
At worst, it becomes paralyzing, as a part of us tries to convince ourselves that this is the way, while another part – more honest and more connected – knows that it is not.
And when these parts are in conflict, both the inside (how it feels) and the outside (how it looks) begin to suffer.
Confusing purpose with career and external direction is one of the 3 main patterns we identified In those who struggle with purpose.
other 2 Go deeper: into the psychology of why we remain obsessed with self-discovery, and why even people who have built successful lives can feel fundamentally mistreated with what they’ve built.
