An out-of-control Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus collided with multiple vehicles in the Bronx on Monday, injuring eight people.
According to the New York City Fire Department, the incident occurred between Caldwell Avenue and Trinity Avenue shortly before 2 p.m.
The bus struck six vehicles approximately six blocks later.

The bus struck two vehicles in front of a school at East 163rd Street and Caldwell Avenue – one struck a light pole, and the other was struck from the side.
Down the road, an SUV was pushed onto the sidewalk and the rear end of a blue coupe was destroyed.

WABC reported that the cause of the crash is under investigation, but the MTA is investigating factors including mechanical failure, weather or the driver’s medical condition.
Police sources told WABC that the driver was going up a hill when he pushed the gas to accelerate when the bus suffered a mechanical failure, adding that the driver may have hit the emergency brakes and went out of control.
