Brussels: Russian President Vladimir Putin should sit for peace talks on Ukraine, the European Union head Ursula von Der Leyen said on Thursday that after a call with American leader Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Volodimier Zelansky.
Von Der Leyen’s demand comes when Kremlin pushed on Trump’s push to have direct conversations between Putin and Zelanski to end Russia’s Ukraine.
European Commission head Von Der Leyen wrote on X, “Just spoke with President Zelansky, after a large strike on Kiv, who also kills our European Union offices. Putin should come to the conversation table,” Wrote on X by Von Dere Leyen, head of the European Commission.
He said, “We should secure a justified and permanent peace with firm and reliable security guarantee for Ukraine that will convert the country into a steel porpine,” he said.
Moscow, meanwhile, launched one of its biggest overnight bombing in Ukraine, killing at least 17 people in Kiev and damaging the diplomatic mission of the European Union.
As part of the US -led peace efforts, Western powers are currently discussing how to guarantee Ukraine’s safety if a trusic deal is applied.
Trump has indicated that the United States may support any European Peace System Scheme, but will not deploy American troops to Ukraine.
Von Der Leyen wrote that “Europe will fully play its role”, highlighting a major new European Union program designed to help Fund Arms for Ukraine- AFP
