Argentina’s President Javier Meili signed a decree declaring the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force a terrorist organization this weekend.
The Quds Force is the foreign branch of the IRGC, a US-designated foreign terrorist organization charged with conducting foreign terrorist activities outside Iran and destabilizing foreign governments. Miley’s decree also specifically targeted 13 individuals associated with the terrorist organization.
The designation, signed by Miley on Saturday, January 17, adds the Quds Force and 13 associated individuals to Argentina’s Public Registry of Persons and Entities Linked to Terrorism and Its Financing (RePET), subjecting them to financial penalties and operational sanctions designed to limit their ability to act. The designation also prevents them from using Argentina’s financial system to support their activities.
In an official presidential statement, the Argentine government stressed that the decision was publicized by President Miley in coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, National Security, Justice, and the Argentine Intelligence Secretariat.
The Argentine government emphasized that the South American nation was a victim of terrorist actions by the Quds Force during the 1990s, through both terrorist attacks against Jewish targets in Buenos Aires: the bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 and the bombing of the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association (AMIA) in 1994. The 1994 AMIA bombing, which killed 85 and injured hundreds, is the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentine history and the deadliest attack in the Western Hemisphere before September 11, 2001.
On April 2024, almost 30 years after the AMIA bombing, Argentine courts ruled to hold Iran and its terrorist proxy, Hezbollah, responsible for both terrorist attacks. The same month, Argentina requested the arrest of former Iranian Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi, whom Argentinian courts identified as one of the key conspirators of both attacks. Vahidi was appointed as the deputy commander-in-chief of the IRGC in December 2025.
“It should be noted that Ahmed Vahidi, commander of the Quds Force between 1989 and 1998, has been implicated in the AMIA bombings and is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice. Despite this, the Iranian regime has not only failed to cooperate with his prosecution, but has promoted him, currently appointing him as deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This individual is already included in the RePET,” The Argentine government said in a statement.
“The nation’s president remains steadfast in his commitment to recognize terrorists for what they are, as he has already done with Hamas, the Cartel of the Sons, and most recently the Lebanese, Egyptian and Jordanian chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood,” the statement added. “This government is committed to reversing the decline of recent decades and aligning itself with Western civilization, which respects individual rights and its institutions, while condemning and directly fighting those who seek to destroy it.”
The US State Department welcomed President Miley’s decision and explained in a brief social media statement statement That, “As a key branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Quds Force has fueled violence throughout the Middle East and beyond while repressing its own people at home.”
“This important step strengthens the global effort to counter Iran-backed terrorism and support the Iranian people,” the statement concluded.

Similarly, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar expansive Granting the terrorist designation to the Quds Force, calling it an “important step” that strengthens the international front against Iranian terrorism and honors the victims of the 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires and the 1994 bombing of the AMIA building.
Saar stressed that more countries should “follow Argentina’s example and call these terrorist organizations by their names.”
argentina newspaper la nación Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai condemned the announcement, deeming it “unacceptable” and threatening Argentina, claiming the country would “undoubtedly receive an appropriate response” from the Islamic regime, reports on Monday morning said.
Upon taking office in December, President Javier Meili began to realign Argentina’s foreign policy with the United States and Israel as Argentina’s top allies. Miley’s policies are a sharp departure from the foreign policies implemented by previous socialist administrations, which over the course of nearly two decades pushed Argentina closer to Iran and other regimes such as China, Russia, Cuba and Venezuela.
la nación It was noted that Miley signed the decree just hours before a new anniversary of the passing of Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman, who died of gunshot wounds on January 18, 2015, just hours before he was to testify in Congress as part of their investigation against convicted former socialist President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on allegations that she facilitated Iran’s involvement in the AMIA bombing attack in exchange for lucrative business deals. Had helped cover the role.
Fernandez de Kirchner, who is currently serving a six-year house arrest sentence on corruption charges, signed a widely acclaimed “memorandum of understanding” with the Iranian regime in 2013 that made the rogue Islamic regime a partner in the AMIA bombing investigation, essentially allowing Iran to investigate itself. Nisman’s death was ruled a “suicide”. The Argentine Presidency has emphasized this through previous statements 2024 And in 2025, Nisman was murdered.
While the AMIA cover-up investigation continued in the years following Nisman’s death, the case against Fernández de Kirchner was controversially dismissed in 2021.
