
Belgian’s Public Prosecutor said in a statement on Friday that eight people have been accused of corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization after investigating suspected bribe in the European Parliament.
Belgian prosecutors said on March 13 that they had allegedly detained several persons from suspected bribe in the European Parliament for the benefit of Huawei, China.

On 13 March, Belgian investigators raided 21 premises in Belgium and in Portugal and a judge requested that the offices of two parliamentary assistants be sealed.

Belgian prosecutors stated that alleged corruption had become “very prudent” under the guise of commercial lobbying since 2021 and was involved to pay for political positions or excessive gifts such as food and travel expenses or regular invitations for football matches.
Prosecutors have said that alleged bribery has benefited Huawei.
Huawei has said that it takes the allegations seriously and will communicate immediately with the authorities to fully understand the situation. It has also been said that its policy of corruption or other wrongdoings is a policy of zero-oppression.
The prosecutor’s office said on Friday that three of the eight accused are being kept under electronic surveillance, two have been released and three are under arrests.
It did not give any further information.
The European Parliament has stated that it has received a request from Belgium officials to assist in investigation, and it will comply with it rapidly and completely.
