Former President Bill Clinton will be questioned by members of the House Oversight Committee on Friday about his ties to a convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and partner Ghislaine Maxwell.
His testimony behind closed doors makes him the first sitting or former president to testify before members of Congress in more than 40 years.
The 79-year-old follows his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was questioned under oath for nearly six hours on the same topic on Thursday, Breitbart News reports.
Hillary Clinton told the House Oversight Committee that she has no memories related to Epstein, or rather, she has nothing to do with him.
In her initial statement, which she later posted on X, Clinton said that Epstein’s criminal activities were just a mystery to her.
She said, “I had no knowledge of his criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island home or offices.”
His memories of Ghislaine Maxwell were similarly lost in the fog of a long past and dwindling memories.
NBC News Report Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said he expected the former president’s testimony to take more than the previous day’s six hours.
The meeting is being held in Chappaqua, New York, where Clinton has her home.
Neither Clinton has been accused of wrongdoing and both have called for the full release of the Epstein files.
There is only one precedent for a former or sitting president appearing before members of Congress.
The last person to do so was former President Gerald R. Ford, when he testified before a Senate subcommittee about planning for the Constitution’s bicentennial.
