Joe Paduda off Managed care case Discusses the cost of growing workers in California:
Special interest is the increasing circulation of unlisted codes in the Physical Medicine (PM). Last year 97799 – A major jump was seen in the PM services coded as “Unleasted Physical Medicine”.
Note that when using general/traditional/general PM code for services including medical practice and manual therapy rejected,
Oh, and these 97799 codes account for one third of all PM expenses in California – each at an average cost of $ 1700.
What are unrestaded codes and why do we need them? Plutshambalth states:
Medical science is moving rapidly. New services, equipment and medicines are entering the field more than ever. Unfortunately, the American Medical Association (AMA) may take 18–24 months to revise the CPT code to reflect these progresses. Under these circumstances, unrestaded codes complete the important task of ending the process of coding and billing.
that sounds weird. Although these unrestaded codes are highly reimbursed, payments often reject them until the performance of the performed is comprehensive documents around the performance, the extension and technical specifications.
However, with AI, it is very easy to document all this. Are doctors only entering the details of the services and asking AI to document such that insurance will be reimbursed? While I do not have evidence to say that AI is the cause of an increase in unlisted medical code, it is true that AI is being used widely for medical documentation. What is AI explanation or any other reason? What do you think?
