On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) responded to a question about whether she would support a government shutdown over ICE funding, saying “I don’t see any way I can provide more funding to an agency that is completely out of control.” But she wants to see bipartisan standards for the agency.
Host Kaitlyn Collins asked, “Would you be willing to shut down the government when it comes to ICE funding, as some of your Democratic colleagues have suggested?”
Smith responded, “Well, listen, what I’ve said is I don’t see any way that I can provide more funding to an agency that is completely out of control. I’d like to see Democrats and Republicans come together and say, let’s at least set some standards here that ICE agents will not be required to wear masks, that they will be required to have basic training. I think it’s the role and responsibility of Congress to address what’s going on here.” But let’s have some oversight and some discipline. So, I’m looking to people on both sides of the aisle to try to bring some sanity to what’s happening in my home state.”
