On Friday, during his weekly appearance on PBS’s “NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks argued that declining viewership of political news is a positive thing.
Brooks told host Lisa Desjardins that the country has become “over-politicized.” He said that while many claimed the term 2024 is “dead” due to the political cycle, he believes it is “dead”, citing Trump’s victory on November 5, the failures of European socialism, and Israel’s victory. Must be “punished”.
“I have to say, I’m thrilled by the decline in viewership for political news,” Brooks said. “We have become too politicized in this country. People go into politics for a sense of belonging, a sense of righteousness. For those things you should go to your friends. You are asking more about politics than politics, which politics cannot tolerate.
“My word for the year is firm. Those of us who oppose Donald Trump should be punished because the majority of the American people thought we were wrong. If you are a worshiper of the European social welfare model, you should be punished, because it is breaking. If you hate Bibi Netanyahu, you should get a little punishment, because he defeated Hamas and Hezbollah and Assad. “So there are many reasons for humility at the end of this year.”
