Brucells: European Union head Ursula von deer Leyen on Tuesday retaliated strongly against US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
German Chancellor Olaf Sholaz also stated that the European Union will present a united front and “will act together as the world’s largest market”.
Trump signed executive orders to impose 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imports from 12 March, despite warnings from Europe and China.
European Commission Chairman Von Der Leyen said in a statement, “I have deeply regretted the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports.”
“Inappropriate tariffs on the European Union will not be unanswered – they will trigger the firm and will perform proportional counters. The European Union will work to protect its economic interests. We will protect our workers, businesses and consumers, “he said.
European Union’s trade head Maros Sephakovic stated that it was a “defeat-loss landscape”, warning that the tariffs were “financially counter-counterparts”.
“By implementing tariffs, the US will tax its own citizens, increase costs for its own business, and promote inflation,” he told the European Union Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
In an executive order, Trump said: “As of March 12, 2025, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Mexico, European Union countries and UK aluminum articles and all imports of dominated aluminum articles will be subject to additional advertisements Veloram Tariffs. ,
He issued a separate order for steel, stating that it would apply to all imports in the same countries, which would apply to aluminum tariff hits, as well as to Brazil, Japan and South Korea.
The US President indicated that additional customs could be on the way for cars, pharmaceuticals and computer chips.
His latest orders will feel like Deja Wu for Europe.
In 2018, Trump slapped tariffs during his first chairmanship on steel and aluminum exports – forced the European Union to respond with his high duties.
The American Chamber of Commerce for the European Union also said on Tuesday that it opposed Trump’s decision, warning that “there would be a wide-wide and heavy negative impact on jobs, prosperity and security on both sides of the Atlantic”.
