Facebook announced on Tuesday that the live video will now be stored on social networks for only 30 days, after which they will be removed. Previously, these videos were stored indefinitely. The change became effective on Wednesday.
All live videos that are currently over 30 days old will be removed from the platform as part of this change. Before the video is removed, users will receive a notification and will be given 90 days to choose what to do with their old live material. Users can opt for downloading videos on their devices, transferring them to their cloud storage or converting the content into a new reel.
In a blog post, Facebook said that “these changes will align our storage policies with industry standards and help us ensure that we will provide the most up-to-date live video experience for everyone on Facebook Are. ” No more clarification was given. (Techcrunch arrived for comment but a reaction was not available immediately.)
Twitch, one of the biggest contestants of Facebook Live, stores the previous broadcast for 60 days for Twitch Partners, Associate and Prime Streams. For regular streamers, the platform stores live videos for 14 days. YouTube, which is another popular home for live videos, store them indefinitely by converting them to videos regularly (unless a user has chosen to disable the collection).
Facebook notes that if users need more time to download their old live videos, they can choose to remove the deletion for six months. If they do not make any option after that period, their old live videos will be removed and they will not be able to access them.
Social network is launching new download tools to help users keep their old live videos.
Users can download their old live videos by selecting the option “Download Live Video” in the notification received about the upcoming deletion. Or, they can click on the “Transfer Live Video” option and then choose their linked cloud storage provider, such as dropbox or Google Drive.
Facebook is using changes as a way to advance the reels, as it notes that users have the option to convert some of their favorite moments from their live videos to reels to put them on their page.
