Malaysia’s government has refuted Bloomberg’s claim of PM Anwar’s interference in the MACC chief’s shareholding probe, saying disciplinary proceedings are underway.
kuala lumpur: The government has issued a strong denial of a Bloomberg report alleging that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim instructed a special committee to delay disclosing the findings of an investigation into Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar explained that proceedings under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 have been initiated, after the Special Investigation Committee’s findings were presented at the Cabinet meeting on March 11.
He said these proceedings are subject to established processes and procedures, with any further developments to be announced in due course.
Shamsul Azri said the Attorney General’s Chamber would take further action against Bloomberg over the allegation.
Foreign news agencies reported yesterday that the deadline to disclose the investigation into Azam Baqi’s shareholding had been interfered with.
