At least 20 people were killed in an overnight attack in Nigeria’s north-central region on Palm Sunday.
According to the state commissioner for information, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the attack took place in the Gari or Waye community in the Jos North region of Plateau State.
It is unclear how many people were injured or killed, and who was behind the massacre.
Residents told The Associated Press that gunmen on bikes opened fire “sporadically” in the community, killing at least 20 people.

Global humanitarian organization International Christian Concern (ICC) reported that the gunmen killed at least 30 people.
The ICC also noted that at least 10 people were killed early Sunday, with humanitarian worker Alex Barbier saying on social media that the victims were Christians.
Following the attacks, the Plateau State government imposed a 48-hour curfew.

In 2025, the ICC documented the killing of at least 54 Christians in the village of Zikke, near Jos, following Palm Sunday celebrations.
More than 100 houses were destroyed during the attack.
According to global Christian charity Open Doors, Nigeria is the seventh-worst country in the world for Christian persecution, accounting for 72% of the total number of Christian killings worldwide in 2025.

Last year alone, Open Doors records show that 546 Christians were killed in Plateau State.
