Washington (AFNS) –
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday signed a memorandum for the civilian employees of all the defense departments, who used to direct them to prepare five bullet points, giving them details of their work achievements.
On Monday, March 3, the same employees can expect an email from the Defense Department, who requested the same information, he wrote. Within 48 hours, they are expected to respond to the email that include their achievements, and add their supervisors as recipients.
Response, Hegseth, said in a video statement released today, “Personnel management office will be integrated internally to complete the instructions related to the office.
In the last weekend, OPM sent a request for the same information, but the department personnel and the office of readiness asked the employees to stand at the request. Now that the department has worked with the OPM to get more clear guidance on what is expected, Hegseth said that employees can start writing their submissions.
In his memorandum, Hegseth said, “The Defense Department initially stopped this instruction … but now all DOD civilian employees need to collect five bullets on their previous week’s achievements.”
According to the guidance of the secretary, it is an email that the employees of the Defense Department should respond. This email will come on Monday, and its answers should not include classified or sensitive information. Additionally, Hegseth said in his memorandum, non-transportation may lead to further reviews.
The Secretary wrote that civil employees will not have access to email in 48 hours, which are written by the Secretary to fulfill the request within 48 hours after delivery of email due to holiday, shift work or other reasons.
Additionally, civilian employees who usually do not have email access will work with their observers to fulfill the request.
In his video statement for the civil workforce, Hegseth said that citizens employees are important for the mission of the department, and that it would be supported by presenting five bullet points about their work.
“Our citizens patriots who dedicate themselves to defend this nation working for the Defense Department are important for our national security,” he said in his video statement. “As we work to focus on the DOD’s main warfare mission under the leadership of President Trump, we believe that we cannot fulfill that mission without the strong and significant contribution of our civil workforce.”
