Malaysian immigration authorities detained 13 Indonesians at a Ramadan market in Bandar Baru Bangi for suspected immigration offences.
kuala lumpur: The Immigration Department detained 13 foreign nationals during a special operation at a Ramadan market in Selangor.
The operation, which was conducted yesterday at Section 13 Ramadan Market in Bandar Baru Bangi, screened 720 individuals at 143 stalls.
Authorities detained six men and seven women of Indonesian nationality, aged between 18 and 40. They are suspected of committing offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
“All of these foreign nationals have been transported and detained at the Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further processing,” the department said in a Facebook post.
This operation was carried out after intelligence information and monitoring of the department. Of those tested, 693 were Malaysians, 12 were Indonesian men, 13 were Indonesian women and two were Bangladeshi men.
The department stressed that inspections will continue in Ramadan markets across the country throughout the holy month. It warned that it would not compromise with foreigners running businesses illegally or violating immigration laws.
“Strict action will also be taken against any person or employer harboring or employing undocumented migrants,” the post said.
