Tehran: Iran said on Monday that the United States has been held accountable to attacks on its nuclear sites, which would be an important position in any future conversation, while rejecting the possibility of direct talks with Washington.
In June, the US joined Israel to influence the Iranian nuclear facilities, disrupting the ongoing discussion about Tehran’s nuclear program.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmayel Bakai emphasized that the demand for compensation for military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities would be a non-perfect subject in the possible talks.
When asked about direct talks with the US, Bakaii strongly responded, “No.”
The struggle began in mid -June when Israel started unprecedented attacks on Iranian atomic and military sites including more than 12 days of residential areas.
American forces later targeted nuclear facilities in Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz.
These attacks derailed the high-level negotiations starting in April, marking the first significant connection between Iran and the US as Washington abandoned the 2015 nuclear agreement.
Following the attacks, Iran suspended cooperation with the United Nations Atomic Sentinel, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and demanded a security guarantee before resuming the conversation.
The US rejected Tehran’s demands for compensation as “ridiculous”.
Bakaii reiterated Iran’s commitment to the Nuclear Non -Proliferation Treaty, but criticized IAEA for its “political and unprofessional approach”.
He confirmed that the Deputy Chief of an IAEA would visit Iran within 10 days, but insisted that the delegation would only engage in technical discussions, with no access to nuclear sites.
Ibrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s Parliamentary National Security Commission, reinforced the stance, saying that no foreign inspection would be allowed.
Meanwhile, Iran has indicated a “new look” of collaboration with IAEA after a recent meeting with European diplomats for the 2015 nuclear deal with European diplomats from Germany, Britain and France.
If Iran fails to follow uranium enrichment border and United Nations inspections, the European trio threatens sanctions.
Tehran insisted that its atomic program is peaceful and considers the restrictions illegal. – AFP
