istanbul: At least 281 students and teachers have been killed in US-Israeli strikes on Iran since last month, according to an Iranian official quoted by Anadolu Ajansi.
Hossein Sadeghi, head of the Center for Information and Public Relations at Iran’s Education Ministry, provided a detailed toll to state news agency IRNA.
This figure includes 222 students, four preschool children, 48 teachers and seven retired education staff members.
Sadeghi said 185 students and education workers were injured in the attacks.
He detailed that the attacks had damaged 789 administrative, cultural and educational facilities across the country.
The damage included 700 schools, 40 administrative buildings, 30 sports facilities, five student camps and 14 cultural and educational centres.
The US and Israel have continued airstrikes on Iran since February 28, taking the total death toll to more than 1,340, including late supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries that host US military assets.
These retaliatory attacks caused casualties, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted global markets and aviation.
