Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman said on Wednesday that Americans hate President Joe Biden’s loose borders, as he suggested he would appoint Senator Markway Mullin to the homeland security post.
“Americans don’t like anarchy,” Fetterman told Mullin, adding:
America certainly did not like the kind of anarchy that existed on the border during the Biden administration. As a Democrat, I was concerned that we had up to 300,000 encounters a month at our border… It’s not sustainable, and it’s not manageable, and it’s making it impossible for us to assimilate [migrants].
“My experience with you has been one of consistent kindness and professionalism,” Fetterman told Mullin, “I will keep an open mind throughout all of this.” [hearing]”
Fetterman explained why he tore apart his fellow Democrats’ support for undocumented immigration. “I refuse to punish and make our country less safe,” he said.
If you care about immigration, as I deeply do, you can’t possibly provide people with the American dream. [a population] size of pittsburgh [is] Coming to our border once a month. This needs to be brought under control. and that’s what happened [under Donald Trump]. I signed up as a democrat [for] All criminals should be arrested and deported. I can’t imagine why we couldn’t all agree.
…
I mourn for Renee Goode, and I agree for Alex Pretty, but I also mourn deeply for Laken Riley and his family. Now all three of these were failures of our government there. I’m proud to be a sponsor of the Laken Riley bill because we need to fix this.
two things [should] Let it be true here. We [should] a safe border, and we [should] Arrest and deport every single criminal in our country. I can’t imagine why this is controversial to anyone.
He said, “I don’t understand why you would shut down the entire agency because you want to make the kind of reforms on ICE that will have no impact on ICE.”
