Brasilia: Brazilian President Luiz Insio Lula da Silva strongly criticized the United States for imposing visa ban on Brazilian officials, labeled as “arbitrary” and “baseless”.
In a statement released on Saturday, Lula emphasized that such action weakens the fundamental principles of respect and sovereignty among nations.
He said, “I am sure that any form of intimidating or threat to anyone will compromise the powers of Brazil and the most important mission of institutions, which is to permanently defend and maintain democratic rule of law,” he said.
The Brazilian leader comes comments amid growing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
Lula’s statement confirmed Brazil’s commitment to judicial freedom and democratic rule, rejecting external pressures that could affect domestic legal processes.
The visa sanctions imposed by the US have not been publicly widely expanded, but Lula’s response indicates a firm stance against the perceived intervention. – Reuters
