Recalling the moments after the shooting at the university, a local resident said, ‘I have never heard anything like this’
Providence resident Elias Christian, who lives within walking distance of Brown University’s Baras and Holley Engineering and Physics Building, said he first realized something was wrong Saturday evening when he heard emergency vehicles racing toward campus.
“I haven’t been here long, just a few years, but I haven’t heard of anything like this happening,” Christian told Fox News Digital. “…It’s kind of known as a safe part of town and generally has a safe reputation.”
He said the shooting seemed especially shocking because of where it happened.
“It’s like the heart of Brown,” he said.
Christian said he himself did not feel particularly afraid, noting that police had the situation “under control.”
However, he acknowledged that it must have been “very scary” for those who were close when the chaos began.
“I’m sure it was very scary for the people who were here before they got control,” Christian said. “And all the students in this building and area.”
