Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it is expanding the Windows 10 Extension Security update (ESU) for an additional year, making users either a small fee of $ 30 or syncing their PC settings on the cloud.
This development comes from the upcoming time limit of the tech veteran on October 14, 2025, when it is officially planned to eliminate support and prevent safety updates for devices running Windows 10. The desktop operating system was launched in July 2015.
Windows manufacturer ESU describes ESU as a “final resort option” for customers who need to run Ligi Microsoft software that has reached life (EOL) status. This is a temporary solution when migrating on a newly supported platform.
As part of the new enrollment options announced by Microsoft, individuals can choose the option of the program from their individual Windows 10 PC through the “enrollment wizard” available in the Settings app. Users can choose one of three options –
- Use Windows Backup to sync your settings to cloud (without any additional cost)
- Redege 1,000 Microsoft Rewards Points (without any additional cost)
- Pay $ 30 (local pricing can change)
Once the appropriate option is chosen, the PCs of users will be automatically nominated in the program. The ESU coverage for the Windows 10 device runs from October 15, 2025 to October 13, 2026.
The nomination wizard is currently available in the Windows Insider program, and Windows 10 is expected to be rolled out for customers in July, with extended availability for mid -August.
It is worth noting that ESUS does not cover new features, non-security updates, or design changes requests. Another important aspect for the factor is that users need to sign up to the Microsoft account to use microsoft rewards or windows backup, if they do not already have.
“Individuals or organizations who make choices to continue using Windows 10 after ending support on October 14, 2025, they will have the option to enroll their PC in paid ESU membership,” Microsoft Note.
“The ESU program enables PCS to continue to receive important and important security updates through an annual membership service after the support ends.”
