In Nasdaq, our aim is to pursue economic progress for all. We provide strength to strong economies, create more equitable opportunities, and contribute to the more durable world to help our communities, customers, employees and people of all backgrounds.
We are spotting Neel Waldron, Principal Sales Executive and Listing Director ANZ in the Celebration of the month of Nasdaq, which honors both financial literacy awareness month and global volunteer month. Neil was recently nominated as the NasDaq Purpose Champion, a prize that recognizes employees that go up and beyond and demonstrate an exemplary commitment to service. He sat with us to share how he integrates his day to day purpose.
Talk to us about your role and team in Nasdaq and what is it
I have a hybrid role, so I focus on new business for our investor intelligence business and I am also a listing director for Australia and New Zealand. My main role is deepening the current people with creating new relationships and business decision makers to ensure that they are a top of the choice of the choice of mind when they are considering investor relationship services or an international listing.
As an objective champion, you simulate leadership in community service. What does your passion to give back?
A few years ago I realized that giving selflessness is one of the important key for happiness life. Now the organization with which I am associated with the chapter lead, first helped me when I was struggling with mourning, especially the first Christmas after my mothers passed away. I realized how influential and supported by a community to share my grief for me, so I have not mounted my emotional pain on my wife and family through moody, stagger. I also realized that this could cause damage due to my relationship with my wife if not the curtain (and perhaps where there is a break up). So I decided that it would help others if I was able to provide the same environment for them, reducing their pain, reducing friction at home with partners and children and raising joy in their families as overall. The purpose of WNOW is to create better people, partners and dads for men and can make a big difference to reduce emotional pain in their hearts through Sobber Means (movement, ocean, sharing). As I experienced myself the first hand.
Can you tell us about your favorite volunteer experience that you have done out in Nasdaq?
We have a 78 -year -old man who joined the Barangaroo (Sydney City) chapter of WNOW, which I run weekly. He is a lovely old gentleman, but is very reserved and shy. He has no family or network and I have come to know that his next family is his GP (doctor), so it is appropriate to say that before WNOW he did not have a very large cycle of friends (he does now). He does not share much personal information in sharing ‘Circle of Trust’ in WNOW. I encouraged him to a volunteer on his one day a 60 km walk away. After the week I asked how he went. He said that when he left the group after walking that night, he started crying (and there were tears in his eyes that were telling me), he said that he was somewhat worried as it could never happen again because it was “the best day of his life.”
What is your definition of purpose?
To benefit others to do something that gives you a feeling of satisfaction and inspires you.
What are the key to sharing and farming with others?
I think it is just about talking to colleagues with colleagues and people are seeing what you are doing, without pushing or being righteous. Its very clear statements for my children such as “selflessness is the key to happiness”, “Giving is living” etc. When they do something like this, I ask them, “How do you feel?, Well?” They are completely in touch with poor things of my righteousness!
Any advice for those wishing to give back your community? Tips to balance work, family and friends?
Start local, if you have children in school, it is very good to work voluntarily in school because you make new friends, help in school, build community and also meet your children during school day. Sports Carnival is my favorite – Cuteness Overload. Alternatively Nasdaq’s purpose is voluntarily a great opportunity with the team and is very easy – making it an hour of sandwiches or making something in the office, with your colleagues, making friends and getting ‘vibe’. Because the joy of voluntarily feeling SA and it is really good. So once you feel it, you will be on a journey to give.
