A New York City Police Department officer assigned to protect Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s residence and City Hall has been suspended after authorities said he shot a man in the head while off-duty.
According to the NYPD, the shooting occurred around 9 p.m. Monday in the Bronx after officers interviewed several people in reference to a stolen car.
The officer, who has not been publicly identified, had not been arrested or charged with a crime as of Thursday morning, police said. He has been suspended without pay.

An NYPD spokesperson told The Associated Press that the department’s Force Investigations Division is investigating the shooting.

The victim, identified as a 30-year-old man, was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

Mamdani’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
The city’s official mayoral residence is a stately home known as Gracie Mansion located in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan.
The manager of a bar across the street from where the shooting occurred said a window at the business was damaged and broken by the gunfire.

No one inside the establishment was harmed in the firing.
“Imagine if there was someone sitting at that window at that time,” bar manager Ada Gomez told The Associated Press.
