Three NYPD officers heroically rescued a teenage girl from drowning in the frigid waters of the Harlem River on Tuesday after hearing her screams for help.
Bodycam video released by the NYPD shows officers calling to the girl and asking if she could swim as she struggled in the cold water near 142nd Street around 2 p.m. local time.
The dramatic video also shows an officer taking off his jacket and jumping into the river to reach the distressed teen, who was about 20 feet from the shore.

Another officer is seen carefully making his way onto a narrow, concrete ledge to help the officer into the water and bring the girl to safety.
At one point, “Help him!” It can be heard that rescuers worked together to pull the girl out of the water.
According to the New York Post, the officers were identified as Ankit Gupta, Wilmer Guerrero and Shuibul Amin, and are members of the 32nd Precinct in Uptown Manhattan.
He was praised on Thursday for his quick response and teamwork.

In a statement, the NYPD said: “When it comes to saving a life, our officers have no hesitation. Officers from the 32nd Precinct saw a woman in the East River and jumped into the cold water to pull her to safety.”
Reflecting on the rescue, Officer Gupta told the Post:

“I’m just glad we were all there as a group. It was a team effort that gave him a second chance.”

“It’s great when you save someone. That’s what we signed up for in this job, isn’t it?” Officer Amin was added.
