Petronas has no plans to cut oil and gas production in Sabah despite falling global prices, citing long-term energy security and economic stability.
kuala lumpur: National oil company Petronas will not reduce its oil and gas production in Sabah despite a sharp fall in global prices.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman (Picture) said the federal government and multinational oil companies are closely monitoring world oil price developments.
“Oil and gas production, including in Sabah, is managed based on comprehensive considerations and is not determined solely by short-term price changes,” he said.
Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey G. Azalina’s reply to a question by Kitingan was published on the Parliament’s website.
He explained that production decisions depend on long-term energy supply security and continuity.
These decisions are also aimed at maintaining industrial stability and generating income for the nation and producing states.
