
One killed and seven injured in a Tesla Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, officials said.
The electric vehicle was parked in the valet area outside the hotel lobby around 8:40 a.m. local time on New Year’s Day, but it caught fire and a “fireworks-style mortar” exploded, ABC7 reported. informedCiting Las Vegas officials.
The only known fatality was the driver and seven bystanders suffered minor injuries, officials said.
It is unclear whether the driver’s identity has been determined, or whether the fire was set intentionally — but authorities said they are investigating the incident as a possible terrorist act, the outlet reports.
Security footage of the incident showed firecracker-style fireworks after the vehicle caught fire, leading social media commentators to speculate that it was an “intentional” attack:
Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the fire was under control, but he continued to warn the public to stay away.
“We’re confident everything is safe now,” he said, “we don’t know what we don’t know.”
