Washington: The possibilities for a Russia-Ukraine summit decreased on Friday as American was stalled in mediation efforts and Moscow dismissed plans for direct dialogue between leaders.
President Donald Trump indicated patience with peace talks comparing inconsistent “oil and vinegar” comparison of Russian and Ukrainian leaders.
Trump announced that he would take an important decision against Russia within two weeks about potential mass restrictions or tariffs.
“It takes to two tango,” the US President said during an oval office briefing, while the slogan wearing a red baseball hat was “Trump was correct about everything.”
Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov clearly stated that “no meeting is planned” between Putin and Zelanski, questioning the validity of the Ukrainian President.
Lavarov confirmed that Putin remained “ready to meet Zelansky”, but emphasized that no appropriate agenda was established for such discussions.
Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelanski said Ukraine accused Russians of “no compromise” and accused Moscow of attempting to prolong the conflict.
Security guarantee for Ukraine emerged as a central issue during recent diplomatic efforts due to a peace agreement led by the United States.
Trump claimed that Russia had accepted some Western security guarantee for Kiev during his conversation with European leaders and Putin.
Lavarov later rejected the discussion about security arrangements without Russian participation as “no road”.
NATO general secretary Mark Rute, while visiting Kiev between Air Red Alert, emphasized that safety guarantee was necessary to prevent future Russian aggression.
The Kremlin has consistently opposed foreign soldiers in Ukraine citing NATO aspirations, which is in the form of justification for their early invasion.
Russia had previously violated the 1994 Budapest memorandum which provided security assurance to Ukraine in exchange for nuclear disarmament.
As a result of the ongoing struggle, thousands of casualties were displaced and millions of people were displaced since they were aggressive in 2022.-AFP
