Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel wants officials to release investigative files regarding Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Christine Fang, or female Chinese spy known as “Fang Fang”, according to reports.
The Hill cited reports Saturday new York Times and this Washington PostSubsequent reports in 2021 came after Breitbart News confirmed that the US intelligence community had a classified report that included “complex and intimate” details about the relationship between Swalwell and the spy.
The Hill article stated:
FBI agents and other personnel in California have been instructed to gather and redact sensitive information from the documents in preparation for sharing them with senior Trump administration officials, according to the New York Times, citing three people familiar with the matter.
The files relate to a decade-old counterintelligence investigation of a Chinese woman known as both Christine Fang and Fang Fang, who reportedly helped Swalwell raise money and hired an intern in his office during the 2014 campaign cycle.
According to the Breitbart article, the report cited included details about the couple’s relationship “including some sexual acts they allegedly performed together.” Swalwell later offered conspiracy theories regarding the outlet’s report but did not deny the existence of intelligence documents.
In recent response Post Report, Swalwell claimed “Donald Trump is targeting me. He’s trying to influence the election. There’s only one reason for it: He’s scared.”
According to Hill, “Publicly releasing files in an investigation that did not result in criminal charges would be a highly unusual step, Post noted.
FBI leaders have also discussed sending agents to China to talk to Fang because they believe he may have damaging information about the California lawmaker, the newspaper reported, citing two people familiar with the investigation.
The Democrat is currently running for governor of California, and Breitbart News reported in January that “his dealings with Chinese communists could come back to haunt him” during the campaign.
