Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) vowed that if he is elected the next governor of California, he will take away driver’s licenses from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
According to Mediaite, speaking at an Empowerment Congress event, Swalwell was asked about his plan to “protect” people in the state from ICE agents.
According to the outlet, Swalwell explained that he would direct “law enforcement” officials to use “every power to prosecute” ICE officers for “battery, false imprisonment and murder.”
“They’re going to lose their immunity,” Swalwell said. “They won’t be able to drive, I’ll take your driver’s license. Good luck getting to work, fucker.”
During an interview with MS Now in December, Swalwell said that if President Donald Trump was “going to send ICE agents to chase immigrants into the areas where they work,” he would “make sure they take off their masks and show their faces, so they can show their identification.”
“If they commit a crime they will be charged with a crime, if it’s falsely implicating people, if it’s kidnapping, if it’s assault battery, they will be held accountable,” Swalwell said. “I also think that if the governor has the ability to issue driver’s licenses to people in California, if you wear a mask and cannot identify yourself, you will not be eligible to drive in California.”
