(UPI) — Actor and comedian Russell Brand has been accused by two new women of two new crimes — a rape and a sexual assault, London’s Metropolitan Police said Tuesday.
Brand is scheduled to appear in court on January 20 on the new charges.
Brand pleaded innocent to the previous five charges earlier this year. Those allegations came from four women who alleged assaults from 1999 to 2005. The trial is scheduled for June 16. Till then he is on conditional bail.
“The women who have reported, including those linked to the two new allegations, continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” said the Met’s Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqui.
An article published in 2023 by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches included allegations of rape as well as physical and mental abuse by several women in Britain and the United States between 2006 and 2013.
The new rape allegation dates back to between 7 February and 1 March 2009. The new sexual assault allegation is from a different woman and dates to August 21 and December 9, 2009.
Shortly after the initial allegations, YouTube stopped monetizing the brand’s channels.
Brand is also a defendant in a civil case alleging that he sexually assaulted an unnamed Jane Doe plaintiff on the set of the 2010 remake film Arthur.
