Moscow: Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday claimed that President Vladimir Putin had encouraged his Iranian colleague to accept the “zero promotion” agreement as “defamation” on his nuclear program.
The US News Outlet Exios on Saturday, citing three unnamed sources familiar with the case, said that Putin “encouraged” Iran to accept a deal with the United States that would prevent the Islamic Republic from enriching uranium.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that this article seems to be a new political defamation campaign with the aim of increasing tension around Iran’s nuclear program.
“Always and frequent, we have emphasized the need to resolve the crisis related to Iran’s nuclear program especially through political and diplomatic means, and have expressed our desire to help find a mutually allowed solution,” read the statement.
Tehran is suspected of demanding a atomic bomb developed by Western countries and Israel, who refuses to defend his “non-conversion” rights to develop a civil nuclear program.
Moscow has a cordial relationship with Iran’s clerical leadership and provides significant support for Tehran, but did not swing behind his partner even after being involved in Israel’s bombing campaign in June.
Publicly, Moscow has defended Tehran’s right to use nuclear technology for civil purposes, but in recent months, Putin has also attracted close to US President Donald Trump.
On 13 June, Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iran, with a 12 -day war began.
The conflict stopped the conversation launched to frame Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting economic sanctions against Iran between Tehran and Washington in April.
On 22 June, the United States bombed the underground uranium enrichment site in Fordo south of Tehran and completed nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz.
