Moscow: Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday warned the United States not to take military action against Iran, amid speculation whether Washington would enter the war with Israel.
Moscow condemned Israeli attacks on Iran in a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and urged a diplomatic solution for the struggle.
Israel began an unprecedented wave of strike in Iran last week, with Tehran responded with missiles and drone attacks.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that he was considering whether to attend Israeli attacks. “I can do it, I can’t do it,” he said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova told reporters, “We would like to warn Washington especially against military intervention in the situation.”
He said that any American military action would “be an extremely dangerous step with really unexpected negative consequences”, he said.
Earlier on Thursday, after the calls by the leaders, Kremlin said that Putin and Xi “strongly condemned Israel’s works”.
Kremlin’s aide Yuri Ushkov told reporters that Moscow and Beijing believe that the end of enmity should be “specially obtained by political and diplomatic means”.

Xi told Putin that a ceasefire was a “top priority” and urged Israel to stop their attacks, the Chinese state media told.
Xi, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua, is the highest priority to promote a ceasefire and end of enmity. Armed forces are not the right way to resolve international controversies. “
He said, “Parties for struggle, especially Israel, should stop hostility as soon as possible to prevent a cyclical growth and to avoid the spillover of war,” he said.
Putin is pitching himself as a mediator among the warnings.
Russia is close to Iran, promoting military relations between its aggressive on Ukraine, but also tried for good relations with Israel.
Last week, Putin made a phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian President Masood Pesheshkian, introducing himself as a peacemaker.
Kremlin said that Xi had “spoke in favor of such mediation, as he believes it could work to de-size the present situation”, Usakov said.
But Western leaders, including US President Donald Trump and France’s Emmanuel Macron, have pushed Putin back against the idea of trying to mediate the struggle between their own Ukraine’s aggressive.
Trump on Wednesday told reporters about Putin’s efforts, “He actually offered to help in mediation, I said: ‘Do me a favor, mediate your own’, Trump on Wednesday told reporters about Putin’s efforts.
“Let’s mediate Russia first, okay? I said, Vladimir, let’s mediate Russia first, you can worry about it later.”
