White House Chief of Staff Susie Wills revealed that President Donald Trump will go out and “run a campaign like 2024 again” for the 2026 midterm elections.
during an interview mother’s viewWills talked about the United States’ 250th anniversary celebration in 2026, the 2026 Winter Olympics and the FIFA World Cup. Wills also noted how, instead of focusing on localization of the midterm elections, the Trump administration would turn that approach “on its head.”
“This is a great time for him to be in office,” Wills said. “He’s a patriot. He loves it so much. He’s going to have fun next year, but, we’re also going to get him involved in the campaign. Generally – just a little campaign speak, if I can.”
Wills further explained that “in the midterms, it’s not about who’s sitting in the White House,” but about localizing the election and “keeping federal officials out of it.”
“We’re actually going to turn it upside down,” Wills shared. “And, keep him on the ballot because a lot of those low propensity voters are Trump voters. And, we saw a week ago Tuesday, what happens when he’s not on the ballot and not being active. So, I haven’t talked to him yet, but he’s going to campaign again in like 2024.”
Wills’ comments come a week after Representative Matt Van Eps (R-TN) won a special election for Tennessee’s 7th congressional district.
While Van Eps’ victory helped Republicans retain control of a “reliably conservative U.S. House district”, according to the Associated Press (AP), the election “contributed to a bleak outlook for the party in the 2026 midterms”.
According to the outlet, Republican strategist Jason Roe said there were “danger signs” and said Republicans “shouldn’t have spent that kind of money to hold that kind of seat”.
“For all these people he helps – he doesn’t help everybody, but for the ones he does, he’s a difference-maker, and he’s definitely a turnout machine, so the midterms will be very important for us,” Wills said.
