The Syrian officials announced that an arrest has been made in connection with a deadly suicide bombing, claiming a life of at least 25 people in a Greek Orthodox Church on Sunday.
The Interior Ministry reported “arrest of several criminals involved in the attack”, the Orthodox Times reported.
According to internal minister Anas Khattab, the operation was “launched against places associated with the cells of the terrorist organization Islamic State,” by the outlet.
According to France 24, explosive equipment and a booby-strapped motorcycle were also recovered during a security operation near Damascus.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara vowed the authorities that they would “work to catch all those who are planning this heinous crime and would work to bring them justice”. ,
At least 25 people were killed, and 63 were injured in other attacks, which took place at Maria Elias Church in Dawil, located on the outskirts of Damascus. This allegedly started when people were praying. The criminal first set fire to those who performed the pooja before exploding themselves.

While no group had immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, Syrian Interior Ministry spokesman Noorddine al-Baba suggested ISIS as a possible criminal after preliminary investigation.

This attack “reminds us of the importance of solidarity, and the unity of the government and the unity of the people, which is facing all those who endanger the security and stability of our country”, Shara said about the church bombing.
