Space is vast and necessary for mankind, promoting knowledge, supporting our economies and running global prosperity. None of it will be possible without reliable access to space.
Since 1979, Europe has rely on the Ariane Rockets and Vega series to launch its mission. Today, with Ariane 6 and Vega-C, ESA ensures Europe’s autonomous and independent access to space. But we are also looking forward. With Ariane Smart Transfer and release in-orbit ship (Astris), Fobus, P160C Booster, MR-10 engines and more, ESA is increasing its rocket with new innovations that improve cost, performance, capacity and stability.
ESA is also moving forward in developing new propulsion systems to give strength to future European launchers. In collaboration with the industry, the ESA is supporting the development of new techniques used on rockets, boosters, upper stages, landers and spacecraft.
Booster (best!) For European space transport (best!), High-ie-rugable space transportation (thrust!) And Future Innovation and Research in Space Transportation Program (First!) Intevs for the future of Space Explorations, are advancing key technologies for the future of space exploration. The Space Rider of ESA is a reusable spacecraft and robot laboratory, designed to live in a low earth-orbit for two months and the payload is returned to Earth. Themis is a prototype for testing the reusable rocket technologies, including vertical takeoffs, landing and reuse operated by Prometheus engine.
The future of space transport extends beyond the launch of the Earth, to support in-arbit operations, satellite servicing with transport system, arbital fuel filling and payload transfer between classrooms.
To support all this, ESA is upgrading its ground support and Europe’s spaceport to French Guana, to adjust more launch.
Through programs like ‘Boost’! The ESA is empowering the European space industry, supporting new companies that are making new launch services. The European Launcher Challenge is shaping a competitive European launch area for the future, strengthening autonomous access to Europe’s space.
