Phnom penh: Laos, Philippines and Vietnam remain on high alerts as Typhoon Vipa continues its devastating route in Southeast Asia. The storm has caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure by displacing thousands of people.
The Philippines’ National Disaster Risk reduction and the Management Council reported that around 800,000 people have been affected by the tropical storm, with five deadly and seven persons missing. Important services, including water supply, boat operations and airport functions, have been disrupted due to heavy rains and floods.
Locally known as “christing”, Typhoon has defeated areas such as Cagayan, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Isabella, also faces severe rainfall in other areas.
In Vietnam, the typhoon, which was referred to as a storm number 3, entered the northern Gulf of Tonkin, a significant danger to the coastal areas. The National Center for Hydro-Mohammasal forecasts warned of potential flash floods and landslides in low-fire and urban areas including Red River Delta, Than Hoa, and Negi N.
