Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday described recent trilateral talks between the United States, Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi as “constructive”, saying the meetings were the first format of their kind in some time and focused on possible parameters for ending Moscow’s war.
Zelensky said the two-day talks, hosted by the UAE, included political and military representatives from all three parties and discussed security issues, including the need for US surveillance and monitoring.
“There was a lot of discussion, and it is important that the conversation was constructive,” he wrote on X, adding that delegations could hold further meetings as early as next week. “As a result of the meetings held these days, all parties agreed to report back to their capitals on each aspect of the negotiations and to coordinate further steps with their leaders.”
The Abu Dhabi talks follow a meeting in Moscow on Thursday between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US special envoy Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Federal Acquisition Service head Josh Gruenbaum.

Putin aide Yuri Ushakov said the “extremely candid” discussion lasted about four hours and included US officials briefing Moscow on their recent conversations with Ukrainian and European leaders.
“What is important is that the participants in the talks between the Russian president and the Americans confirmed the fact that without addressing the regional issue on the basis of the formula agreed in Anchorage, it will be unlikely to bring about a lasting solution,” Ushakov said, according to a summary of the meeting from the Kremlin.
Territorial issues remain a major stumbling block in the talks, with Moscow pressuring Kiev to give up parts of the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine, which Russian forces do not fully control.
