Singapore equity performance from the beginning of the year
Singapore’s benchmark Straits Times Index scored another new high Thursday, for the benefit of its fourth straight day.
LSEG’s data showed that the country’s equities on Thursday climbed 0.47% to hit a new record of 4,077.41 points.

Trump says that 50% tariff on copper will start from 1 August.
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that 50% tariff on copper imports, which he declared the previous day, would be effective on 1 August.
This decision was taken after obtaining a national security evaluation, Trump said in a position on the truth social.
Trump wrote, “I am announcing 50% tariff on copper on 1 August 2025, after receiving a strong national security evaluation.”
“Copper semiconductor, aircraft, ship, ammunition, data center, lithium-ion battery, radar system, missile defense system, and even, are essential for hypersonic weapons, many of which we are constructing. Copper is the second most commonly used material by the Defense Department.”

Bank of Korea requires expected to keep rates stable at a low -lying level of nearly three years
The Central Bank of South Korea kept its policy rate at 2.5%, keeping it stable at a low three -year low.
The South Korea’s economy signed a 0.2% quarter in the first three months of this year in the quarter, which was due to softening weak construction activity and export growth, while it was flat in a year on the basis of year.

Asia-Pacific stock market opened in mixed business
Asia-Pacific stock markets shut down the trading day mixed.
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 slipped 0.45% in the open, while the topics lost 0.54%. South Korea’s cospie rose 0.24% and the small-cap Kosedack rose 0.44%.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was 0.51% higher.

Good morning from Singapore! The Asia-Pacific markets are ready to open mixed.
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 was set for higher opening, futures in Chicago at 39,925 while its counterpart in Osaka last traded 39,910 against 39,910.
The futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index were at 23,863, slightly weak than HSI’s last close to 23,892.32.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was also set to start the day with a benchmark futures at 8,571 compared to the last close of 8,538.6.

The US Stock Futures were relatively unchanged on Wednesday evening.
The S&P 500 futures hovering around the flatline after ET at 6 pm, as Nasdaq 100 futures. The futures tied to the industrial average were similarly flat.
