Binance co-founder Changpeng “CZ” Jhao denied claims that he agreed to testify against Tron’s founder Justin Sun as part of the disposal conditions in his deal with the United States Department of Justice.
‘WSJ is really trying here’-binance co-founder
According to the 11 April report by The Wall Street Journal, CZ agreed to provide evidence against Sun as part of its petition with the US Department of Justice. Citing anonymous sources, the WSJ also alleged that the officials of the Benance were advocating the American Treasury to reduce their inspection of the operation of the exchange.
In a post on the social media platform X, CZ wrote that “WSJ is actually trying here,” reducing the claims made in the report. According to the co-founder of Benance, he would not have served any jail time, assuming that he really became a government witness and provided information to Sun.
Jhao knew that the report was coming, as he had already indicated that “WSJ is writing another baseless hit piece” in the April 11 post on X. In the latest post, CZ artificially inspired his belief about the report, someone claimed that the Wall Street Journal claimed to lead a smear campaign against him.

In response to the founder of the blockawar Capital, Arri Paul, CZ clarified the allegations brought by DOJ against him.
Jhao said:
To be clear, there were no “money laundering” or “fraud” charges. You are confusing “Anti-Mani Laundering” for “Money Laundering”. One is to stop/fails in the police. One is doing himself. Two very different things.
CZ was sentenced to four months in jail in April 2024, convicted as the CEO of Anti-Money Laundering (AML). The co-founder was released from the US federal prison in September 2024 and has since been involved in other attempts inside and outside the Cryptocurrency industry.
Justin Sun dropped the CZ petition deal rumor
In a post on X, Sun tried to play the WSJ allegations against CZ, saying that he did not know about the circulating rumors. The founder of Tron said, “CZ is both my guru and a close friend – he played an important role in supporting me during my visit to my entrepreneurship.”
Sun also said that he has a straight and honest communication line with both CZ and US justice department. He highlighted that the Doj T3 is one of the closest and most trusted partners of the Financial Crime Unit (T3 FCU)-Tron, Tedhar and TRM Labs co-installed blockchain security initiative.
