BN’s Naim Moktar won the Kinabatangan by-election with a majority of 14,214 votes, replacing his late father, former MP Bung Moktar Redin.
kinabatangan: Barisan Nasional (BN) has successfully defended the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat.
Its candidate, Mohammad Kurniawan Naeem Mokhtar, won decisively with a huge majority of 14,214 votes in a three-cornered contest.
The result was announced by Election Manager Dr Eddy Syazul Rizam Abdullah at the official vote tallying center of Dewan Sri Lamag here tonight.
Mohammad Kurniawan Naeem, better known as Naeem Mokhtar, secured 19,852 votes.

He defeated two challengers: Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman from Parti Warisan, who received 5,638 votes, and independent candidate Goldam Hamid, who received 946 votes.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election was held on December 5 last year following the death of its outgoing incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Redin.
Bang Mokhtar, 66, was also the father of the winning candidate Mohammad Kurniawan Naeem.
In the 15th general election, Bung Mokhtar defended the seat, defeating Majliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan with a majority of 4,330 votes.
AD Sayajul Rizam said that 369 ballot papers were rejected in the by-election.
He commended all parties involved and said the democratic process proceeded smoothly without any disruption.
Earlier, Mohd Kurniawan Naim, wearing a black T-shirt, arrived at the hall at 9.05pm accompanied by BN vice-president Datuk Jafri Ariffin. – Bernama
