Qualampur: Moody’s Analytics estimates that Bank Negara Malaysia will maintain its night policy rate at 2.75 percent during the meeting of Thursday’s Monetary Policy Committee.
The research firm said in its Asia Pacific Weekly Highlights and preview that the 25 basis point cut of July represented a prior-khali step against growing external uncertainties.
“Since then, industrial production and export figures are better than expected.”
“In September, a potential rate cut by the US Federal Reserve, along with headline inflation, will create a room to loosen the monetary policy for BNM if it deteriorates.”
BNM reduced the OPR corridor ceiling and floor rate by three percent and 2.5 percent respectively after the July adjustment.
The Central Bank had previously maintained a rate of 2.75 percent in March 2023, before it increased to three percent after two months. – Bernma
