New York City continues to struggle with violent crime on its streets and public transportation, a problem made worse by the increase in illegal immigrants arriving without asylum. Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly expressed frustration with the federal government and argued that the city lacks the resources to care for them.
According to City Hall reports, since April of 2022, an estimated 220,000 immigrants have come to the city, more than 58,000 of whom are currently being cared for by New York City taxpayers.
