Canada would delay its plan for the need of vehicle manufacturers to meet minimum electric vehicle sales goals by 2026, with a tough fight by tariff with the aim of reducing pressure on an industry on an industry in one step.
According to people familiar with Bloomberg (Gauded), Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government on Friday announced a change, as part of the wider package of the most contact measures for US President Donald Trump’s trade war.
Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, while presenting the rules, had said that at least 20% of new vehicles should be sold by 2026 model years. Instead of implementing that target, the government will now review the “electric vehicle availability standard” to ensure that it does not put extreme burden on car manufacturers.
