KUALA LUMPUR: China has expressed willingness to strengthen development strategy alignment with all parties while maintaining openness and cooperation.
Prime Minister Li Kiang said this approach will jointly create a new chapter of development and success in East Asia.
He said East Asia’s long-term commitment to openness and cooperation has enabled regional countries to rise above differences in social order.
This approach has allowed nations to achieve complementarity through cooperation while avoiding politicization or securitization of economic issues.
Speaking at the 28th ASEAN+3 summit, Lee said East Asian countries are now in different development stages than in the past.
He emphasized that reviewing history and learning from it can provide valuable insights and inspiration for future development.
“For decades, it is because we have maintained openness and cooperation that we have been able to overcome differences in social systems, take advantage of our strengths and economic patterns, and achieve mutual complementarity among nations,” Li said.
“It is also because of openness and cooperation that we have avoided politicizing or securitizing economic issues, instead managing and resolving differences through communication, dialogue and coordination, thereby minimizing disruption to economic growth,” he said.
The ASEAN+3 Summit was held in Kuala Lumpur along with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
The summit was co-chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Premier Li Qiang, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
The Chinese Prime Minister also stressed that openness and cooperation facilitate continued progress in regional connectivity.
He said this approach further strengthens market dynamics while creating opportunities for shared growth for all countries.
Lee commented, “Openness and cooperation is a valuable shared experience gained through years of practice and exploration.”
He concluded, “We must cherish it, stand firm in our commitment and ensure that openness and cooperation continue to serve as a decisive force for East Asia’s economy.”
Lee underlined that ASEAN’s cooperation with China, Japan and South Korea has maintained positive momentum over the past year.
He highlighted that this cooperation demonstrates the resilience and vitality of East Asian economies despite global challenges. – Bernama
