Durov claimed that French intelligence services asked him to sensor conservative voices
Pavel Durov recently accused the French intelligence officials of asking the telegram platform to sensor political content related to the Romanian presidential elections.
Durov said that he rejected the request. Durov wrote in the Telegram Post on 18 May, “You cannot defend democracy by destroying democracy.
Although the founder of Telegram did not initially take the name of the intelligence officer or the European Union country, who asked him to censor the material, Durov later revealed more concrete details. Telegram co-founder wrote in the post on 18 May:
“In this spring, Nicholas Learner, the head of French intelligence, in the Salon Des Bhetiles, at Hotel de Krillon, asked me to ban conservative voices in Romania before the election. I refused. We refused. We did not block protesters in Russia, Belarus or Iran. We will not start doing it in Europe.”
Durov repeatedly stated that Telegram will not censor political content on the stage and will exit the markets before restricting free speech on the social message application.
Telegram co-founder said that compliance with such heavy political sensorship violates human rights.
