Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said during an appearance that the Trump administration’s restoration of fountains, monuments and parks in DC shows that dirt was a choice. Breitbart News Daily.
“It’s a credit to President Trump and his leadership,” Burgum said, discussing the improvements President Trump made in D.C. ahead of the country’s half-centennial. The nation’s capital is one of the “bluest megacities in the country,” he said, noting that registered Republicans for the region are about five percent.
“In a city where – all over the city – all these pocket parks, circle parks, triangle parks, city parks are all run by the National Park Service. So, President Trump just said we don’t have to accept filth and homelessness. We don’t have to accept sites full of decrepit graffiti, and so under President Trump’s leadership, you know, we have removed 152 homeless camps,” he said, adding that the establishment media has ignored the fact that These homeless individuals have been taken care of and provided services.
“You can come every day. This is public space. You just can’t live here, and we’re going to help you find somewhere else to live, so you know, care will be taken without controversy, without news, and then go into some of these places and clean up, restore fountains that haven’t been working for decades,” he said, adding that President Trump would like him to restore the fountains more than anything he’s done as president. More “love letters” have been found about.
Burgum said, “Because D.C. residents, no matter what party, no matter what political affiliation, they understand that beauty is a choice. This is a beautiful city with beautiful monuments, and as we approach our 250th anniversary, President Trump cares deeply about that.”
“He understands about pride in our country, and what it means, and we talk about the reflecting pool between the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial. It reflects more than just images of those two incredible monuments. It’s reflecting the history of our country. It reflects us as a country,” he said, explaining that he wants people to come to the capital and see the beauty of America — no trash.
“When we rededicated the Columbus Fountain in front of Union Square last week, 16 months ago [it] There was a homeless encampment with the protest,” Burgum said.
He said that the fountain itself was covered with pro-Hamas graffiti, reminding the audience that those images were not AI.
The Interior Secretary said, “A complete 180-degree change is being achieved by every resident of DC, and President Trump is showing that this is a model for every big blue metropolis we have in the country, including L.A. It’s just a choice.” “Just go get it done.”
Burgum also highlighted the restoration of Meridian Hill Park’s cascading fountain as host Mike Slater noted the number of residents who visit it now that it is operational.
“It hasn’t had water in it for decades,” Burgum said.
Some residents did not even know it was a fountain.
”It was in such a dilapidated condition, overgrown again, a homeless camp,” he said, adding that he and his wife went there over the weekend and saw signs of life – residents gathering, eating, and now that it’s been cleaned up there are trash cans full. He said there are now ten times more visitors.
“It’s a choice. Leadership is a choice. Living in beauty is a choice, as opposed to living in squalor. We don’t have to take it for granted as Americans in this greatest country in the world that we have, we have all the abundance and all the freedoms, so many things to be grateful for,” Burgum said, emphasizing that every American in every city deserves to live in a beautiful place that is safe.
Burgum said it should serve as an example of Trump’s leadership ahead of the upcoming Freedom 250 ceremony.
