fresh After ending Malaysia’s 18-year wait for the Indonesia Open men’s doubles title, national pair Goh Sze Fei and Noor Izzuddin Rumsani insist they are not too satisfied with what they have achieved.
Both returned home after their impressive victories at the prestigious Super 1000 tournament in Jakarta, where they came back from a set down to capture the title.
Speaking during a media session yesterday, the pair said they are motivated by the many goals they still have to achieve in their careers.
He said, “We don’t really set specific goals because we always want to achieve more. There are still many dreams that we haven’t accomplished yet.”
The two were speaking during a “Smash It With #Feedin'” session held in conjunction with AIA Vitality’s 10th anniversary celebration.
Beyond the race for titles, the pair believe that athletes have a responsibility to set a positive example for the younger generation by promoting discipline and healthy living.
He also expressed hope that more private companies would come forward to support aspiring athletes, especially those with talent but limited resources.
“There are many talented individuals out there who don’t get the opportunities they deserve due to lack of sponsorship,” he said.
Outside the court Izzuddin admitted that he would support Spain in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. But when it comes to badminton, the message from the Malaysian pair is clear, they are still chasing big dreams and are not satisfied with what they have achieved so far.
