This week, Google has allegedly sent an email to the parents to know that Mithun AI Chatbot will soon be available to children under 13 years of age.
the new York Times Cited an email stating that the chatbot will be available for some users from next week. (Chrome Unboxed reported on the same email on 29 April.) Google sent email to parents who use the company’s family link service, which allows families to establish parents control for Google products such as YouTube and Gmail. Only children participating in family links will have access to Mithun for now. Email allegedly told her parents that their children would be able to ask Mithun questions or help in tasks like doing homework.
The move comes a few days after the non -profit common Common Sense media has been declared by a few days after the AI partners represent “unacceptable risk” for people under the age of 18. Common Sense Media worked with researchers at the Manthan Lab of Stanford School of Medicine for mental innovation, resulting in a report to parents to urge to stop younger users from reaching devices such as characters.
Character.ai is one of the increasing number of services that allow users to make and interact with “characters”. As the Common Sense Media wrote in its report, “These AI ‘friends’ actively participate in sexual conversation and rollplay, answering requests with teenage questions or graphic details.”

This type of roll is different from AI chatbots such as chat and Gemini, but it is a blurred line. This week, Mashable reported to a bug, which would have allowed children to generate erotica with chat, and The Wall Street Journal Meta exposed a uniform bug with AI. Therefore, while AI chatbots like Mithun have safety measures to protect young people, users are looking for ways to go around these railings. This is a fact of life on the Internet that some rules are easily skirted. Just consider online pornography, which is illegal for people under 18, yet widely available with a few clicks.
Therefore, parents who want to prevent their children from using artificial intelligence are facing a difficult fight.
To make the debate even more complex, President Donald Trump recently issued an executive order that will bring AI education to American schools. The White House says the order “AI will promote literacy and proficiency of K -12 students.” Understanding AI’s abilities, risks and limitations can be useful for children using it for schoolwork for children (especially given its hallucinations).
In his email to the parents, Google accepted these issues, urging the parents to “help their child to think seriously”, when using Gemini, when using Gemini the new York Times,
